Escape to "The Barnacle," a quintessential oceanfront family cottage located directly on Hatchet Cove in Friendship. This is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the water, watching the lobster boats and sailboats pass by. The cottage offers the best of both worlds. It tucked away from the crowds in a classic Maine fishing village, yet it's still just a short, scenic drive from the popular Midcoast towns of Rockland and Camden.

The true highlight of this property is the outdoor living space. You can enjoy your morning coffee on the outdoor deck, which is surrounded by Mugo pine hedges for privacy, or walk down onto the private pier. At low tide, a new set of stairs leads from the pier directly to the beach for exploring.

Inside, the cottage is cozy and comfortable. The main living area includes a futon, several comfy chairs, and a decorative indoor fireplace. The single bedroom is furnished with two full-size beds. The kitchen is equipped with a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Please note there is no dishwasher. A folding table is provided for indoor dining, as there is no formal dining area. The full bathroom includes a toilet, sink, and a stand up shower.

  • "It was the perfect place for us to relax and enjoy Maine and our family. The cottage was really nice. We liked the simplicity of it. It wasn't super close to a main city which we liked, but it was close enough to make visiting cities and other sites easy. There is also a few corner stores nearby if you need anything."

Guest Access & Property Notes

  • Guests have full access to the cottage, the surrounding yard, the private pier (wharf), and the beach area.

  • Please note that the owners or a few close family friends may occasionally need to access the pier or moorings during your stay. They will be respectful of your privacy and will not be a bother.

  • The cottage is most comfortable for two people. It can technically sleep more, but please be aware that both full beds are in the same bedroom.

  • Children are welcome with watchful supervision, as the cottage is not child-proofed The furniture is not bolted to walls and there are no cabinet locks. Part of the cottage's charm is its classic location on a rocky ledge. This "rocky approach" may be difficult for guests with mobility concerns.

  • We have two private moorings available in Hatchet Cove if you'd like to bring your boat. You will need to provide your own dinghy to get back and forth.

  • This is a seasonal dwelling available from early May through the end of October. We provide space heaters and fans for comfort.
